What factors are taken into account when deciding if aerial photography is a good decision?
Drone photography can be a huge asset to selling a home. It provides a unique perspective of the property, highlights nearby features, and helps buyers to visualize where the home sits in an area. Why wouldn’t you do it on every property?
Legality
First and foremost, drone use is regulated by the FAA. There are many areas where drone use is restricted or outright prohibited. In these cases, it would be a violation of the law to acquire aerial photographs or video.
While there are many reasons for restricting drone use in certain areas, some examples of the most common reasons are: proximity to military installations, flight paths of other air traffic to/from airports, and proximity to sensitive infrastructure. More information is available through the FAA’s website, in particular this section on unmanned aerial systems.
Surroundings
One of the great things about drone photography is that it shows off the area around the home, but this can be a drawback in some cases. Not every listing is in an area that photographs well, and some listings may be in proximity to features that could put buyers off.
For example, if there is a highway on the other side of the neighborhood in which a home is situated, it may raise buyer concerns about traffic noise even if it is not actually a problem with the home.
Our photographers can advise you on the airspace and whether your listing would benefit from drone photography. Even if drone photos aren’t possible/ideal for a particular listing, we still offer unbeatable real estate photography, virtual tours, and advanced editing techniques that are sure to attract buyers.
